RADIAL NERVE

ORIGIN: Posterior cord of brachial plexus

COURSE/DISTRIBUTION: Begins as the continuation of the posterior cord of brachial plexus. It runs initially on the subscapularis bed to reach the floor of the axilla (axillary fascia) before descending first with the neurovascular bundle of the upper arm above the insertion of the coracobrachialis. It then passes to the posterior aspect of the upper arm (posterior to the brachial artery)within the groove for the radial nerve behind the humerus. It is accompanied by the profunda brachii which joins it at the upper part of the upper arm. It reaches the lateral aspect of the cubital fossa before dividing into its two terminal branches.
