INTERNAL ILIAC LYMPH NODES

 

GROUP: Common iliac nodes.

LOCATION:  These nodes surround the internal iliac vessels.

DIVISIONS:

Sacral nodes

Obturator node

DRAINAGE: These nodes drain the pelvis  and the deeper aspect of perineum. It also drains the gluteal region and the muscles of the posterior aspect of thigh. The efferent vessels from these nodes drain into the common iliac nodes and then to the  lumbar trunk and the thoracic duct.

GROUP: Mesenteric nodes

LOCATION:  These nodes lie on the branches of the superior mesenteric artery.

DIVISIONS:

Jejunal

Ileal

Ileocolic

Right colic

DRAINAGE: These nodes drain the mesentery. They enter the superior mesenteric nodes to pass on to the intestinal trunk from where they reach the thoracic duct.
