LUMBOSACRAL JOINT

 

Joint animation

DESCRIPTION: This joint articulation is between the vertebral bodies of L5 and S1 vertebrae. Intervertebral disc is placed between them. The joint is cartilaginous. It is a type of intervertebral joint.

         Iliolumbar ligament

NERVE SUPPLY:

BLOOD SUPPLY:

MOVEMENTS: Movements are in unison.

         Flexion: Rectus abdominis (both sides), psoas major and quadratus lumborum and iliacus.

         Extension: Erector spinae group.

         Lateral flexion: External oblique muscle of abdomen, internal oblique muscle of abdomen and iliocostalis lumborum.

         Rotation: Rotatores and multifidus.
