Caldwell-Molloy pelvic classification of pelvic types

1. Gynecoid- this is the normal pelvic type in most females.

2. Android this is the pelvic type that resembles a male pelvis

3. Anthropoid pelvis- resembles the pelvis of the anthropoid apes

4. Platypelloid- flat pelvis

  Gynecoid pelvis

1. Brim is oval in shape

2. Pelvic walls are parallel so that the outlet dimensions are similar to that of inlet

3. Subpubic angle is obtuse

4. Ischial spines and sacral promontory not prominent

Android pelvis

1. Brim is heart shaped because of the prominence of the sacral promontory

2. Pelvic walls taper to a cone so that outlet dimensions are narrowed

3. Subpubic angle is acute

4. Ischial spines are prominent

Anthropoid pelvis

1. Brim has a long anteroposterior diameter but a very short transverse diameter

2. Pelvic walls are parallel as in gynecoid pelvis

Platypelloid pelvis

1. Anteroposterior diameter of brim is very short while transverse diameter is very long

2. Pelvic walls are divergent and hence outlet dimensions are wider than inlet.
